Lemonade 25 Cents!

We know this is a little off-season, but what better way to celebrate Bitsy’s 200th (!) post than to share with you a glance at our Lemonade Stand (from August!)?! We had a blast planning, creating + selling yummy lemonade (recipe below)! And we loved transforming the “Bitsy Retail Shop” we built for the girls last Christmas into a lemonade stand…

It started with Lucy + Greer creating their very own “Lemonade” sign to temporary replace the “Bitsy” sign…

Then, of course, we had to create a sign with our pricing:

Bitsy's Lemonade Stand!

Then, it was show-time!:

It was such a blast and we can’t wait to do it again next summer!

1 cup sugar

2/3 cup boiled water

6 large lemons

3 ¾ cups chilled still or sparkling water (we used still)

Mix the sugar and hot water in a heatproof bowl. Stir to dissolve sugar, then set aside to cool. Roll lemons to release the juice.

Squeeze the lemons. You need about 1 cup of lemon juice.

Pour the juice into a pitcher and stir in the sugar syrup. Finally, add the chilled water and mix.

Makes 5 cups.

And, yes, we kegged ours. It was a great way to keep the lemonade fresh and cold. It was also easier + more fun for Lucy to pour!

Making a Splash! (We’re Talkin’ Water Shoes)

We are going to be honest, water shoes are never something we are excited to buy. They all look a little funky and don’t really roll out an outfit like we had pictured. So, Bitsy took some time to find some sassy water shoes that will really make a big splash this summer! We would even let our kiddos wear these when they are NOT planning on making any sort of a splash – for real!

Take a look why:

Happy Summer!!

An All-American Summer – Poppy + Hen!

As we get ready for another season and gear our bellies + minds up for parades, picnics + warm summer nights (hopefully!) we thought a brand like Poppy + Hen only fitting to share with you! Get excited because this one is going to steal your hearts and create some nostalgia…

Girl's Summer Dresses

Girl's Summer Dresses

Poppy + Hen was created by Allie and inspired by her daughter, timeless fashion, vintage patterns, the value of childhood happiness, the value of innocence, a love for the outdoors and generations of sewers in her family (she grew up with her mom sewing her clothing – from debutante dresses to day-wear…so cool).  Made in the US with 50s/60s patterns, the collection pieces are made to last a lifetime both physically and aesthetically. Say no more.

Poppy + Hen‘s first collection (a few bits featured above) was designed to reflect “children wearing summer”. Think vacation, happy, carefree, fruit, travel, family, outdoors, summer, happiness. It is obvious that Allie has a true love for what she creates. As she explained to us, she wants this collection to be worn by all happy little girls however they please – fancy or free, with high-tops or Mary Janes – and feeling happy while wearing them. Even though these prints scream summer months, the dresses are extremely versatile – they can be carried into the fall/winter months with knee highs and tights or over leggings. The prints are exceptional and conversation starters. We can’t really choose which we like best, but the chickens definitely have a special place in our Bitsy heart.

GUESS WHAT?! Poppy + Hen is kindly offering BITSY followers FREE SHIPPING TODAY on all orders! So go get your summer on and be ready for your little ones to impress at the start of the season!!!!

This time of year I almost always find myself dreaming of sunny summer days. We head to Florida in April every year with my family (usually for Easter). So, right after the stroke of the New Year I start thinking about what to pack. Call me crazy, but it gets me through the Connecticut January, February + March months – ohhh these dreadful months.

Having worked in retail I’m also trained to think “resort wear” – even if it means doing so while building a snowman in my yard. As I dream of palm tree breezes, I thought I’d share what I’ve found for the mini shes and hes in a warmer climate – whether it be their hometown, a vacation or a countdown to a vacation. These sunny outfits will keep your little one’s bod looking fresh…
