Baby, Baby!

We found the best of everything baby. And boy -or girl! – do we mean it! We have recently become familiar (and in love) with a website dedicated to everything pertaining to baby and toddler. The Baby Cubby is your one-stop shop and they do it in true BITSY style. Word to your mom. For real.

The Baby Cubby is an online (and brick + mortar if you live in Utah!) baby supply boutique that offers literally everything from skin care products, clothing, equipment, nursery decor, registry and a ton more. One thing we love at Bitsy is passion. (PS, that is why we are here blogging away about creative, special + fun children’s style + clothing finds, remember?!) So for us to feature a shop it means we really, really think you should check it out. We aren’t in the business of wasting your time and neither is The Baby Cubby. So, why does The Baby Cubby stand out to Bitsy?

As we mentioned, their passion. They take true pride in their responsibility of guiding new and seasoned parents toward the appropriate product for them and their families. They vet every product they sell so when the questions come rolling (which we know they must!) they are ready and confident with the advice they lend. The folks behind Baby Cubby spend hours researching the best + safest products out there for your little one(s) so you don’t have to. They have a stroller track to test strollers. (We secretly want to hit that up someday :)). They even have a link “how to choose the right carseat“. The list goes on and on!

They are there when you need them. The Baby Cubby is accessible via social media (Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube) and their blog (Cubby Community Blog). When stopping by their online boutique there is a “chat with a cubby mom” option so you can bounce thoughts off of someone experienced and well-versed before making your final decision. That is putting personal back in the online shopping experience. They don’t mess around.

Listen, parenthood is a ride. And many times throughout the ride you wonder if you will ever stop feeling overwhelmed or discouraged. It is nice to know that there is a brand out there like this to turn to when a new product hits the market or you are in need of an adjustment in your daily routine. Or, most of all, you are first-time parents with NO idea what to expect, eek! They’ve made searching and navigating their site a breeze so it is easy for you to find anything you need (and things you didn’t even know you needed!).

Bitsy was drawn to The Baby Cubby‘s website because of their beautiful aesthetic. Their online boutique offers great inspiration visually as well as through their words (product explanations, advice, etc). Bitsy has hand-picked a few of our “must-have” registry and gift items so you can start your baby journey – whether you are building your parenthood collection or helping someone with theirs, we think there is something for everyone here. Check out our picks below. Just an FYI – they price match everyday (even Amazon!) and offer free shipping nationwide over any purchase of $49 or more!! After all, Baby Cubby refers to parents as Superheroes…

Itsy Bitsy – Winter Boots!

My friend texted me yesterday – “You know those mornings when no shoes fit?!”. Umm, yes, I do. Quite well, actually! Unfortunately. The two of us had recently exchanged thoughts on winter boots for the upcoming season. The past few years we’ve done these – GAP KIDS COZY DUCK BOOTS – and have loved them. They are winterized, water-proof and best of all they were a one-shoe deal for kids. They could rock ‘n roll in them on the playground and in the classroom and even the snow. Well, I went to order a pair for the girls and was upset to find out that Gap is now charging $80/pair! Sad face.

So, my friend (and very trusted mom adviser) sent me a pic of her older daughter in a knock-off pair from Target. Love it. Getting on it. You should too! Let’s face it – they will wear them for what seems like 2 seconds, but are a staple in their winter wardrobe.

Check them out here:

Thank you! NO, thank YOUUU!

Bitsy is big on the thank you note. We feel the nicest way to personally thank someone for their thoughtfulness is to send them a hand-written note that you’ve spent time crafting letting them know why you appreciate their gift so much and how it has impacted your life for the better. Growing up, it was automatic that my mom expected us to write someone a thank you note very shortly after receiving a gift or nice gesture. Hence, the reason for this post…

This being said, we (totally!) understand that you are busy and we certainly understand that your 3/4/5-year old isn’t going to write their own thank you notes. Let’s face it, they are barely thanking us for wiping their bums all day, every day! However, what better way to start teaching them the value of a proper thank you than to have them involved in “writing” their own from when they are itty bitty?! Over the years, Bitsy has slowly eased Lucy into this process. When she was 3 we had her draw a “picture” on the thank you notes we sent out from her. When she was 4 we had her do the same. This past year – turning 5 – has opened up a world of responsibilities so we have her sign her name to all of the notes.  Next year, we plan to have her “write” her own via the fill-in style (see below). Eventually, by the time she is 7 or 8 we are hoping she will be able to sit down and understand the process of truly, genuinely thanking someone on paper.

We find it so exciting to receive a card in the actual mail. There is something special and personal about thanking someone for their thoughtfulness with an actual pen + card stock. That moment you open up a thank you note and realize that you had made someone happy. Priceless. Long live snail mail and the thank you note!

Bitsy has been in search of cute thank you note ideas for little ones. We hope you find a design/style you like and that suits your child’s age and your family’s lifestyle. And, we THANK YOU for reading!

Lemonade 25 Cents!

We know this is a little off-season, but what better way to celebrate Bitsy’s 200th (!) post than to share with you a glance at our Lemonade Stand (from August!)?! We had a blast planning, creating + selling yummy lemonade (recipe below)! And we loved transforming the “Bitsy Retail Shop” we built for the girls last Christmas into a lemonade stand…

It started with Lucy + Greer creating their very own “Lemonade” sign to temporary replace the “Bitsy” sign…

Then, of course, we had to create a sign with our pricing:

Bitsy's Lemonade Stand!

Then, it was show-time!:

It was such a blast and we can’t wait to do it again next summer!

HOMEMADE LEMONADE RECIPE

1 cup sugar

2/3 cup boiled water

6 large lemons

3 ¾ cups chilled still or sparkling water (we used still)

Mix the sugar and hot water in a heatproof bowl. Stir to dissolve sugar, then set aside to cool. Roll lemons to release the juice.

Squeeze the lemons. You need about 1 cup of lemon juice.

Pour the juice into a pitcher and stir in the sugar syrup. Finally, add the chilled water and mix.

Makes 5 cups.

And, yes, we kegged ours. It was a great way to keep the lemonade fresh and cold. It was also easier + more fun for Lucy to pour!

ENJOY!

Party Animal! Bitsy Birthday Wishes…

Birthday Wishes - Silhouette Picture

Our littles turned the big TWO on Saturday! We threw her a fun family party and she had a fabulous day! I am going to be honest – this post is being published after the celebration because September is kicking this Mama’s bum! And, of course, we wanted to fully enjoy Greer’s special day with her without any stress.

So, here it is! Our “party animal” birthday silhouette. Greer is obsessed with dogs and all animals so the theme was perfect. The silhouette is a picture of Greer I took while she was pulling her favorite Scotty dog one day. Friends gave her the Scotty for her first birthday last year, but you can find it on Amazon – Janod Crazy Scotty Pull Toy. Of course, our favorite Gina Pasini of Aabcdefginaa on Etsy created this incredible silhouette of Greer from our picture. You can head to her Etsy Shop and see what other beautiful silhouettes she has created. To check out previous silhouettes from Gina created for BITSY you can click the following BITSY links:
